Identifying Lice and Nits

Discovering your child has lice is one thing, but trying to remove them can be downright overwhelming. Unfortunately, spotting lice in your child;s hair isn’t always easy and in fact, trying to remove both lice and spot nits can seem impossible. However, it’s important that every parent knows how to check for head lice. In fact, if you receive a note saying that your child has lice, knowing how to find them is crucial for getting rid of them as soon as possible.

How to Check For Lice

If you notice that your child is constantly scratching their head, neckline or behind their ears, check their head immediately. Before doing so, go into an area that has good lighting or use a flashlight. Start looking behind their ears or the bottom of their neck and gradually work your way up. Lice and nits are able to be found anywhere, however, they prefer to hide in warmer places. Thus, making the bottom of your child’s hairline a great place to start looking. Once you’ve finished inspecting the first part, split your child’s hair in half and go over each section for nits and lice. Repeat this process until you’ve gone over your child’s entire head. If your child has head lice, you’ll need to take them to a lice treatment center.

How to Check For Lice

CHECKING YOURSELF FOR HEAD LICE If you noticed that your head is itchier than usual or you feel a crawling sensation, you have to inspect for lice. But, this is easier said than done, especially if you live alone. If you’re left to deal with this alone, here are a few tips that can help: Step 1 – Check behind your ears because this is where the lice will most likely lay the nits. Step 2 – In order to find out if you have nits and not dandruff, try pulling them out by shaking your head. If they don’t come out, then it’s not dandruff. Step 3 – If you’re able, put another mirror in front of the one in your bathroom. This allows you to check on the base of your neck. Lift your hair up and see if you spot any lice crawling around. Again, this may prove to be very difficult if your hair is darker. If you do spot lice or nits, visit a head lice treatment center Chester County.
